Mary Agnes (Scanlon) Witty, 86, longtime resident of the Bradford section of Haverhill, passed away at Holy Family at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill Sunday morning, May 3, with her family be her side.
Born in Haverhill, Aug. 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and M. Catherine (Hanley) Scanlon and was a graduate of Saint James High School.
She was the wife of Kenyon H. Witty, who died March 14, 2004, and mother of eight children, proud grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, caring sister, and friend to many. Family was the center of her life, from raising her own children to being involved with the care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was always there to take care of everything.
Witty was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins, loved being friends on Facebook.
She is survived by eight children, Patricia Lapierre and husband John, Mary Jane Jordan and husband George all of Haverhill; Joseph Witty and wife Deb of Atkinson, N.H.; Michael Witty of Bradford; Susan Maranto and husband Larry of Ariz.; Nancy Smith and husband Greg of Lake Stevens, Wash.; Stephen Witty and companion Debbie of Bradford and Richard Witty and companion Sarah of Seabrook, N.H.; her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Joseph Scanlon and wife Clair of Venus, FL; sister, Margaret Lynch and husband John of Lynnfield; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Scanlon of Atkinson, NH, along with several generations of nieces and nephews. They all loved her dearly. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ann Marie and her brother, James Scanlon.
Visiting hours at Paul C. Rogers Family-Carnevale Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill, are Wednesday, May 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Hearts Church, South Main Street, Bradford, followed by interment in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
