Armand E. ‘Nick’ Deveau, 82, Korean War Veteran

Armand E. “Nick” Deveau, 82, a lifelong resident of the Ward Hill Section of Haverhill, passed away suddenly at his home Thursday, April 30.

Born in North Andover, he was the son of the late, Nicholas J. and Gertrude (Dorin) Deveau. Raised in Ward Hill, he attended Haverhill Public Schools. A Korean War veteran, Deveau proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until being honorably discharged in 1955.

Growing up in Ward Hill he started his working career as a farm hand at the Roger’s Spring Hill Farm. Always a handyman and jack of all trades; as a laborer he helped build the Ward Hill Post Office, and later he would build his own home next to his father in Ward Hill, where his brother now resides. For a while he was employed at the Haverhill Paperboard. He then moved on to become the first full-time employee for the Early and Son’s Construction Co. and would serve the Early family for the next 40 years.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Deveau loved spending time at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was constantly puttering around the house or doing yard work. He was a known fixture at the Crescent Yacht Club and in 1991 was awarded the “Man of the Year” in appreciation for his dedication to the club.

He leaves his beloved wife of 59 years, Mabel J. (Allen) Deveau; three children, A. Edward Deveau Jr. and his wife Judy (Chase), of Haverhill, Denise J. Martin and her husband, Paul H. of Haverhill, and Nicole J. Deveau, of Ward Hill; grandchildren, Casey, Nicholas and Jackie Deveau, Joseph and Kimberly Martin, and Jaylin and Dimarnae Deveau; two brothers, Dale V. Deveau and his wife, Antoinette, of Ward Hill, and Richard G. Deveau and his partner, Edna Hannon, of Haverhill; and a sister, Joyce J. Kozak and her husband, Valentine, of Atkinson, N.H. He was predeceased by his sister, Claire Hamilton.

Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services for Deveau Sunday afternoon at 4 at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Calling hours will be held from 2 until 4 p.m.
