Thomas F. Hinderer, 76, Marine Corps Veteran

Thomas F. Hinderer, 76, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully with his family by his side April 20, at Holy family Hospital, Methuen, after an illness.

Born in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of Rodney and Elizabeth (Druckenbrod) Hinderer. He was educated in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. A Marine Corps veteran, Hinderer served during peacetime, from 1956 until being honorably discharged in 1958.

Hinderer was employed as a mechanic for Sears Auto, Peabody, and drove a limousine as a side job. He was known for his great sense of humor, playing with his remote control helicopters and video games and loved his dogs. He had a gift with woodworking and making crafts. He always looked forward to spending his vacation time in Florida.

Hinderer is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Janis B. (Martino) Hinderer; a son, David Hinderer, of Amesbury; two daughters, Maria Phipps, of Maine, and Paula Arivella, of Haverhill; five  grandchildren, David Arivella, Ryan Cunningham, Christopher Cunningham, John Cunningham Jr. and Danielle Bishop; brother Carl Hinderer and his wife, Carol, of Chesterton, Penn.; two sisters, Margaret Johnstone and her husband, Dennis, of Rotunda, Fla., Laurel Shaffer, of Inglewood, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Hinderer are private. Memorial donations may be made to the MSPCA 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St. Haverhill.
