David Baker, 81, passed away Sunday April 19 at home surrounded by his family.
Baker was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a medic. A long standing Haverhill resident, he was an active member of the community serving on the Haverhill City Council for many years. He was a hard-working and dedicated entrepreneur. He started his own construction business building single homes, which he later expanded to nursing homes and apartment complexes. He was also the administrator and owner of nursing homes in Haverhill and Amesbury.
In recent years he was involved in establishing Apple Hill Golf Club in East Kingston, N.H. Baker was truly passionate about horses and harness racing. He trained and raced horses and was an active member of the horse racing community in both New England and Florida. He showed his love of his faith by acting as president of Temple Emanu-El. Above all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and his family is what brought him his greatest joy.
Baker is survived by his wife of 57 years Dorothy; three children, Sandi and her husband Stephen Lundquist of East Kingston N.H., Debbi and her husband Richard Burston of London, England, and his son Robert Baker and wife Christine of Brentwood, N.H.; sisters Rhoda Wolpert of Haverhill, and Marsha and her husband Harvey Katz of Haverhill; brother Bernard and his wife Monica of Hampton, N.H.; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral Thursday, April 23rd at 2 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El in Haverhill Mass. Interment will follow in Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill. Following the burial, friends and family may pay their condolences at the home of Stephen and Sandi Lundquist, East Kingston N.H. Condolence calls can be made at his late residence Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday evening. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to a charity of your choice.
