Organizers are gearing up for the annual volunteer, citywide cleanup day in Haverhill. This year’s event kicks off at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 25, from the Haverhill Citizens Center, Welcome St.
According to Kathy Cargill Labrode, who spoke before city councilors Tuesday on behalf of organizer David Labrode, the grassroots effort to commemorate Earth Day draws as many as 250 volunteers.

“I’m very excited that the Winnekenni basin is part of the cleanup this year. There are probably 20-30 volunteers that have signed up for the Winnekenni location, including many from team Haverhill as a result of the Possible Dreams event. We’re really going to make a dent. We’re really going to improve the front entrance of the park, plus the rest of the park. And if anyone is out there who is part of a neighborhood group that perhaps they want to stay in their neighborhood. I know that everyone is urged to cleanup the playgrounds, perhaps Portland St. playground and (Hilldale) the Cashman field playground. You know you can cleanup your own neighborhood; you don’t necessarily have to come out and volunteer. It’s nice just to have people out there cleaning up their private property on that day as well,” Sullivan said.
