Police Arrest Teacher of the Year Nominee for Cocaine and Pills

A woman nominated to be teacher of the year last year has been charged with trying to sell pills and cocaine.

Amanda Roche, 27, of 119 Webster St., Haverhill, was arrested after Haverhill Police narcotics detectives and street crimes officers executed a search warrant at 9 p.m., last night, at her home. She was charged with possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute, possession of class C substance and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Roche was released on bail and will be arraigned at Haverhill District Court today.

“The Haverhill Public School system has been made aware of Roche’s arrest and will be placing Roche on administrative leave pending further review,” detective Captain Robert P. Pistone said this morning.

Also arrested was Jim Alizee, 25, of the same address. He was charged with possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws, possession of class C drug and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police explain Alizeee was stopped driving a car registered to Roche away from their home. He was held without bail and will also be arraigned in Haverhill District Court today.

Roche, a teacher at Pentucket Lake School, was one of a dozen teachers nominated last fall to be Haverhill YMCA’s Educator of the Year.
