A convicted sex offender was arrested Wednesday for last week’s robbery at Pentucket Bank.

William J. Heil IV, 38, of 73 Memorial Circle, Andover, was arrested Wednesday morning by Haverhill police detectives with the assistance of Andover police and U.S. marshals. Heil was arrested on a warrant, charging him with unarmed robbery of Pentucket Bank’s Westgate branch, Thursday, April 2.

“The arrest was the result of a follow up investigation by Haverhill Detectives based on anonymous tips called in by citizens that saw surveillance photos that were published by various media outlets,” said detective Captain Robert P. Pistone in a statement.

Heil was held without bail and will be arraigned in Haverhill District Court Thursday.

According to the state Executive Office of Public Safety (EOPS), Heil was convicted Aug. 9, 1996 for indecent assault and battery on a person aged 14 or older and rape of a child with force. He was classified as a Level Three offender, described by the state as having “been determined to be at a high risk to reoffend and to pose a high degree of dangerousness to the public.”

Heil previously resided in Kingston, Mass.
