As warmer temperatures melt the last reminders of winter’s record snowfall, the town of Sandown, N.H. is getting an early start to mosquito control season.
Beginning next week, crews from Dragon Mosquito Control will be in Sandown “checking swamps, marshes, woodland pools, ditches, storm drain and other shallow, stagnant water for mosquito larvae,” according to a spokesperson. Insecticides would be applied where the larvae are found.
Based on surveillance data, disease test results and weather, Sandown residents would be notified further if emergency spraying is required when West Nile Virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis is detected in or near the town. Target areas for potential spraying include Sandown Central and Sandown North schools, the Miller and Garvey Recreation areas and Angle Pond Grove Camping Area.
A “no spray registry” is available to Sandown residents who do not want their wetlands treated. Box 46, Stratham, N.H. 03885 Residents should include their name, physical address, phone number and description of the property with boundaries. A free check of stagnant water on properties is also available by contacting the company.
