A Haverhill man faces drug-related charges in court stemming from search and arrest warrants executed by police with assistance from a regional SWAT unit early Friday in the Lafayette Square area.
According to Haverhill Police, Jose Espiranu, 21, of Haverhill, was arrested at 6:09 a.m., Friday, at 7 Lafayette Ave. He is charged with two counts of possession of possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute and one count of a violation within a school zone or park. Under an outstanding warrant, he was also charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license and motor vehicle citations. He was arraigned on the charges in Haverhill District Court.
A SWAT unit from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) assisted Haverhill Police. The search and arrest operation had temporarily closed Winter Street to traffic at the intersection of Lafayette Square.
