Healey Lauds Dempsey, Others for Grand Jury Bill

State Representative Brian S. Dempsey of Haverhill, is among those receiving credit credit from Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey for efforts to create a statewide grand jury.

Dempsey, House Ways and Means Committee chairman, played a role in adding the statewide grand jury as an amendment to a supplemental budget bill.

“I thank the House and Senate for their swift action on the statewide grand jury. I want to particularly thank Senate President Stan Rosenberg, House Speaker Robert Deleo, Senators Spilka and Brownsberger and Representatives Dempsey and Fernandes for their leadership on this issue,” Healey said.

“The Statewide Grand Jury will help us to combat human trafficking, and illegal gang, gun and drug activity, minimize trauma for victims and witnesses of having to testify multiple times, and is more cost effective than a county-by-county system. I am hopeful that Governor Baker will sign this measure in order to support a more efficient and effective justice system,” Healey said.
