E. Broadway Used Car Lot Receives Scrutiny Tuesday

Haverhill Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro.

The Haverhill City Council will revisit a proposal Tuesday night to allow a used car sales lot on East Broadway near the intersection of Groveland Street.

An application for a special permit by Devon Tucker, doing business as Ideal Service Center, to allow a 10-vehicle sales lot at 7-9 East Broadway was postponed by the council in January, subject to approval from the board of appeals. That panel gave its approval at its February 18 meeting, however the council on February 24 again postponed the public hearing to March 31. The hearing is now requested one week earlier, as an appeal period to the board of appeals approval expires Tuesday, according to council documents.

Earlier, Haverhill Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro told the council raising increased commercial use of the property designated for automobile service and inspections will “negatively impact the neighborhood as a whole.”

Also on the council agenda, Mayor James J. Fiorentini is scheduled to present the annual “State of the City” address after the start of the meeting.

The Haverhill city council meets at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in council chambers at Haverhill City Hall.
