Richard J. Comeau, 84, Korean War Veteran

Richard J. Comeau, 84, formerly of 46 Carleton St., Haverhill, died March 16 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born, raised and educated in Haverhill and son of the late Joseph J. and Loretta M. (Comeau) Comeau, he attended St. Joseph Grammar School and the Haverhill Trade School. He served honorably as a submariner and seaman apprentice in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1953.

Comeau worked as inventory department coordinator for Pope Machinery Corporation for many years until his retirement in 1992 and was past president of Local 527 of the International Association of Machinists.

A member of All Saints Parish and the former St. Joseph Parish, he was a life member of the Lorraine Post of the VFW and the AmVets Post 147 in Haverhill.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary E. (Dacey) Comeau, and is survived by a son, Andrew N. Ordway of North Andover; two daughters, Sandra M. Pickett and her husband Alexander of Plymouth,  and Cynthia Ritalic of Revere; four grandchildren, Christine Holmes, Patricia Holmes, Robert Bauman and Kevin Bauman; special adopted grandchildren, Rachel Manning and Erica (Manning) Merchant; a sister and brother-in-law, Aimee and John Langlois of Haverhill; a sister-in-law, Doris Comeau; four great grandchildren, Justin Holmes, Kyle White, David Bauman and Rachel Bauman; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James C. Comeau.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Comeau’s life celebration Thursday, March 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. His funeral begins Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at All Saints Church. Burial in Hillside Cemetery will take place in the spring.
