Norton C. Garrett Jr., 65, Vietnam Veteran

Norton C. Garrett Jr., 65, of Haverhill, passed away Saturday, March 14,  at the VA Hospital, West Roxbury.

He was born in Haverhill May 31, 1949, son of the late Norton C. and Elizabeth (Short) Garrett. He was raised and educated in Haverhill and attended Haverhill High School and Northern Essex Community College. Norton served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged.

Garrett was a lifetime member of the Crescent Yacht Club in Haverhill, where he often helped to run canoe races for different charitable organizations. He was also a member of Amvets Post 147 in Haverhill.

Norton is survived by his wife, Gayle (LaBelle) Garrett of Haverhill, with whom he shared 19 years; his daughter, Andrea Bevilacqua of Haverhill; sister, Jeanne Murphy and husband, Michael of Hampstead, N.H.; brothers, Bruce Garrett and wife, Diane of Plaistow, N.H., Wayne Garrett and wife, Barbara of Conn.; and Keith Garrett, Ralph Garrett and Scott Garrett and wife, Amy, all of Haverhill; grandchildren, Camryn, Carson and Connor Bevilacqua; aunt, Patricia Tsatsa of Methuen; and  best friend of 55 years, David Arel and wife Pam of Salisbury. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.

Family and friends are invited to attend his life celebration Wednesday, March 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832. His funeral begins Thursday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at All Saints Church in Haverhill. Military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps will follow the Mass.
