Barbara A. (Bradley) Howes, 79, Former Glynn Assistant

Barbara A. (Bradley) Howes, 79, of Haverhill, died Friday morning, March 13, at Wingate at Haverhill.

She was born in Kansas City, Mo., April 27, 1935, daughter of the late Troy L. and Opal M. (Bradley) Bradley. At an early age her family moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., and Howes was educated there. She moved to Haverhill in 1958 and, until her retirement, was employed as a certified nursing assistant at the former Glynn Memorial Nursing Home, Haverhill. Howes, also known as “The Matriarch” was a member of the First Baptist Church, Haverhill, and enjoyed making crafts with her friends, playing bingo and teasing her son-in-law.

She was predeceased by her husband Ernest Howes; step father, Forrest W. Hummer; and her dog, Muffin. Her survivors include a daughter, June Luebbe and her husband Robert L. of Haverhill; a brother Dewy Lee Bradley of Grovetown, Ga.;  four grandchildren, Wendy E. Rivera, Robert W. Luebbe, Kristianne M. Rawlings and Caroline M. Crowe; three great grandchildren, Sean and Kyle Rawlings and Ethan Rivera; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours Tuesday, March 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Haverhill & Bradford.
