Lucy M. Takesian, 89, 1953 Woman of the Year

Lucy M. Takesian, 89, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill.

She was born in Haverhill Feb. 4, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Anjoorian) Takesian. Takesian was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1943, and a member of the Philomathian Club. She was employed at the former Cranton Oil Co. for five years, and later became a legal secretary at the Law Firm of McDonald & McDonald for five years, and Soroka, McDonald, Davis, Cogswell & MacDougal for the next 21 years as attorney W. Clifford McDonald’s personal secretary. Takesian was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church for more than 76 years, where she was a member of its Pairs and Spares, attending the church group of North Shore Music Theatre and the Boston Pops for 30 years. She co-chaired the bakery table for 23 years and she was honored as Woman of the Year in 1953. She was a former member of the St. Margaret’s Guild and the Haverhill Women’s City Club. She enjoyed traveling to various places including Mexico, Spain, Portugal, the California coast, Nevada and cruises to the Bahamas. Takesian loved to play the piano and sing songs, bake for her many friends and present her poetry. She was brought up in a warm, loving family that cared about each other. She cherished her many friendships made throughout her lifetime.

Takesian is survived by her brother, Robert C. Takesian, with whom she resided; and her cousins, Harry Takesian, Marjorie Walukevich, Helen Hagopian, Michael Takesian, Charles Takesian, and Clara Mancentelli.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her funeral will be Friday, Feb. 27th, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., in Trinity Episcopal Church, 26 White St., Haverhill. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
