Area Officials Warn of Potential Roof Collapses

A weekend storm forecast has local public safety authorities and others giving a “heads up” to Merrimack Valley residents on a growing concern for snow changing to ice/rain which could potentially result in an increase of roof collapses.

“If you haven’t done so yet, please give your roof some much needed love before this next storm hits. The snow on roofs could triple in weight with rain and ice added to it, possibly causing collapse,” warned an Andover Police spokesperson.

WHAV meteorologist Rob Carolan isn’t sounding as many alarms. “Tomorrow, clouding up with snow arriving by late in the day, highs 20 to 25. Snow will change to sleet and freezing rain tomorrow night…It all ends Sunday afternoon, highs will be up to 30 to 35,” he said.
