George T. Vathally, 67, Son of Late Haverhill Mayor

George T. Vathally, 67, of Haverhill, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Lawrence General Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Haverhill Jan. 3 1948, son of the late former Mayor Thomas S. and Theodora (Fanos) Vathally. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Vathally graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1966. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and graduated from Boston University with a degree in Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. Vathally began his career at General Electric after which he pursued his own successful business career in Vermont. Before retiring, and with a special gift of numbers and mathematics, Vathally worked as supervisor at Foxwoods Casino. He served in the US National Guard in his early years. Vathally was an avid bowler capturing several titles in ten-pin bowling. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends. His survivors include his brothers, Stephen Vathally of Washington, D.C.; Thomas Vathally Jr. and his wife Deborah of Milton N.H.; Theodore (Ted) Vathally of Bradford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was also the brother of the late Jamie Vathally who died in 1996.
