Haverhill is gearing up for the latest storm—adding possibly two more feet of snow—with a ban on any on-street parking.
Mayor James J. Fiorentini declared an “Extreme Snow Emergency,” beginning Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 p.m. The ban lasts until Sunday, Feb. 15, at 10 p.m.
“The streets need to be cleared for safety. Parking is not permitted on any city street,” he said. Residents without off-street parking may use the Haverhill Public Library, school parking lots and city hall. The city’s two parking garages—Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority garage, Railroad Square, and the Herbert H. Goecke Memorial Parking Deck, Merrimack Street, are also available.
WHAV meteorologist Gary Best predicts, “Light snow breaks out during in the afternoon—inch or two by evening. Temperature in the 20s. A wind-whipped snow Saturday night and Sunday morning. Lighter snow Sunday afternoon, but still very windy with blowing and drifting. Accumulations of seven to 14 inches.”
Due to the Presidents Day holiday Monday, trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day for all collections days. The mayor asked residents not place trash and recycling behind large snow banks. He directed questions to Highway Department at (978) 374-3817.
