State Senator Barbara L’Italien today has a new press secretary.
Former Eagle-Tribune Staff Writer Shawn P. Regan begins today as communications director for the Andover Democrat who was elected last November.
“It was a big deal, a big decision for me,” Regan, 46, of Lawrence, told WHAV Friday. Regan has worked for the Eagle-Tribune newspaper for 15 years. He started as state house reporter in 2000 and his last assignment there was as a Haverhill reporter. Previously, he worked two years for the MetroWest Daily News, Framingham.
L’Italien was elected to the Massachusetts Senate last November, succeeding Barry Finegold in the 2nd Essex and Middlesex seat. Before redistricting, L’Italien previously served as one of Haverhill’s state representatives. She was the first representative to be elected to the 18th Essex district, which itself was created by redistricting following the 2000 census. L’Italien served from 2003 to 2011.
