AutoFair to Buy 70-Year-Old Regan Ford Monday

After more than 70 years, local, family ownership of Regan Ford ends Monday.

Regan Ford, 501 Broadway, will become known as AutoFair Ford of Haverhill upon its purchase by Harry Andrew Crews of Bedford, N.H., according to documents filed in Haverhill City Hall.

The Haverhill License Commission voted Thursday night to approve an application for a new Motor Vehicle I license for AutoFair, subject to consummation of the sale.

Frank Regan and his cousin, Joseph S. Regan, opened Regan Motor Co. in 1944 at the former West Garage on Water Street in downtown Haverhill. His son, Frank Jr., president, and W. Sidney Lafey, treasurer, were forced to move the business in 1967 as urban renewal commenced. Then known as Regan-Lafey Ford, the company moved to its current location near Interstate 495. The company has been operated by a third generation led by Ann Regan-Flynn.
