Career Resources Corp. Returns Downtown with Satellite

Mayor James J. Fiorentini’s Chief of Staff David S. Van Dam during a 2011 visit to Career Resources Corp.

A Haverhill-based nonprofit, providing employment and community living services, among others, to those with disabilities has opened a second office location, downtown.

Career Resources Corporation, 22 Partridge Road, Ward Hill, has leased downtown office space at the Landmark building (formerly Mitchell’s Department Store), 76 Merrimack Street, according to Bradley Howell, executive director. It marks a return to downtown for the agency, which began as the Work Activity Center in 1968 and operated for many years at the former Winter Street School.

Howell told WHAV the new office, which opened Jan. 26, focuses on helping people, including veterans with disabilities, find employment through vocational services, including job interview skills and meeting with counselors who assist in job searches. He said they’re “excited to become part of the downtown development area,” locating near the new Harbor Place development.

“And the downtown location provides us accessibility to public transportation, and a great opportunity to connect with local businesses, to work with them on people who may be interested in hiring veterans with disabilities as well as other people,” Howell said.

According to Howell, a vocational staff of six, including a program director, Erica Mawby works from the new office, with funding provided by several sources.

“The funding that we receive, some of it’s through private and corporate foundations, some of it is through a state contract. And some of it is through the public and donations from concerned and supportive citizens,” Howell said.

“Career Resources Corporation is a non-profit organization that has been assisting people with disabilities, and other barriers, to be as self-sufficient, self-determining and as successful as possible since 1968,” according to its public materials.
