Mary A. (Avalakis) Tzitzon, 93, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Saturday morning, Jan. 31, at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, Haverhill.
She was born in Haverhill, Feb. 4, 1921, daughter of the late Arthur and Jenny (Sgouras) Avalakis-Kitsopolous. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Tzitzon graduated from Haverhill High School. She was employed at the former New England Shoe and Trim, Hamel Leather, Western Electric, Haverhill National Bank and retired from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, Haverhill Branch, as the clerical supervisor/head teller. Tzitzon was a lifelong member of Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Haverhill.
She was the wife of the late Sotheron Tzitzon who died in 1985 and step-daughter of the late James Kitsopolous. Tzitzon’s survivors include her children, Arthur Tzitzon and his wife Lindsey of Haverhill, James Tzitzon and his wife Elaine of Haverhill, Callie Tzitzon and her longtime companion Paul Lupone of Woburn, a sister, Athena Kyriocopoulos of North Andover, a brother, Chris Kitsopolous and his wife Betty of Vierra, FL, three grandchildren, Tara Elizabeth, Nicholas and Jason Tzitzon two great grandchildren, Lila and Sabrina Tzitzon as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Rita Stroumbos, Georgia Psarros, Calliope Vatoseow and Irene Folopoulos.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Thursday, Feb. 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her Funeral will be Friday, Feb. 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Service at 11 in Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
