Andover Seeks to Fill Vacant L’Italien Seat on School Committee

Andover town leaders are seeking to fill a vacant seat on the Andover School Committee, formerly held by new state Senator Barbara A. L’Italien.

Before redistricting, L’Italien previously served as one of Haverhill’s state representatives. She was the first representative to be elected to the 18th Essex district, which itself was created by redistricting following the 2000 census. L’Italien served from 2003 to 2011. She was elected to the Massachusetts Senate last November, succeeding Barry Finegold in the 2nd Essex and Middlesex seat.

A search committee in Andover, comprised of school committee and board of selectmen members, is seeking applicants for a temporary appointment until upcoming town election on March 24. Individuals with previous public board experience may be given preference, according to the Town of Andover’s website. Deadline to submit letters of interest to Town Manager Reginald “Buzz” Stapczynski is Friday.
