Council Pushes Used Car Lot Issue to February

There was no action this week by the Haverhill City Council on a proposed 10-vehicle used car sales lot on East Broadway near the intersection of Groveland Street.

A public hearing scheduled to be held during last Tuesday night’s council meeting was further postponed to Feb. 24, according to the city clerk’s office.

Petitioner Devon Tucker, Ideal Service Center, is requesting a special permit to allow a 10 vehicle, used car sales business at 7-9 East Broadway. Tucker holds a 23-car sales license for its former location at 117 Winter Street.

Input from city departments since the initial Jan. 6 postponement came from Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro and Building Inspector Richard Osbourne. DeNaro requests the council reconfirm a 2004 Board of Appeals decision allowing the property’s use for vehicle service and inspections only. Osbourne indicates appeals board approval is required prior to a special permit request before the council.
