Carol A. (VanAvery) Newcomb, 69, Nursing Home Activities Director

Carol A. (VanAvery) Newcomb, 69, of Haverhill, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Lawrence General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Gloversville, N.Y., she was the daughter of Victor and Bertha E. (Soules) Leate. Moving to the Boston area as a young child she attended Waltham public schools and Chelsea High school.

Newcomb was employed as an activities director in nursing homes in the Boston area, including Wakefield, Melrose and Malden.In her spare time Carol enjoyed researching genealogy. She loved traveling the local area on weekends treasure hunting at yard sales.

She leaves her beloved husband of 15 years; David A. Newcomb, of Haverhill, six daughters; Heidi Weir, of Haverhill, Vivian Sayers and her husband Richard, of Sandown, Carrie Ingalls and her husband Gentry, of Haverhill, Emily Weir, of Calif., Rebecca Weir and her partner, Sarin Kim, and Amanda Weir and her partner Rob Jennings, all of Haverhill, 16 grandchildren and one great grandson.
