Laura Mavis (Merrill) Perkins, 78

Laura Mavis (Merrill) Perkins, 78, of Haverhill, passed Sunday morning, Jan. 11, at Penacook Place in Haverhill. She was the  wife of Wellman Laurie Perkins.

Born in Madison, Maine, Perkins was one of five children of the late Orrin and Ruby Merrill. After graduating from Bangor High School, Bangor, Maine, she went on to graduate form the New England School of Theology.

For many years Perkins had worked in the admissions office of the former Bon Secours Hospital, Methuen, and was a longtime, faithful member of the Advent Christian Church of Haverhill. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt, was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and was passionate about her cats.

In addition to her husband of 40 years, she is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Perkins of Haverhill; her brothers, Erwin Merrill and wife Berta of South Paris, Maine; Orrin Merrill Jr. and wife Faye of Millinocket, Maine, and Gene Merrill and wife Janet of Dallas, Texas; her sister, Miriam Lohgry and husband James of Pascoag, R.I., along with several generations of nieces and nephews. They were all very special to her.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Advent Christian Church, 160 Carleton Street, Haverhill. Interment in Linwood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Advent Christian Church, 160 Carleton Street, Haverhill, MA 01832 or to the Alzheimers Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
