After six months as interim director of the Haverhill Public Library, Sarah I. Moser has been hired by the city and the library board of trustees to the permanent post.
David Van Dam, aide to Mayor James J. Fiorentinti, confirmed to WHAV Monday that Moser, formerly assistant director, and who joined the library staff during March, 2013, was hired to succeed Director Carol Verney, who retired last July.
“We are happy to have Sarah as our new Library Director. She will bring enthusiasm and new ideas to the position. Sarah has the background to bring our library to the next level. She has already instituted a new book drop and a mobile app. I look forward to the new initiatives Sarah will develop for the library,” said Fiorentini.
Moser, of Newbury, previously worked at the Cambridge Public Library and Newburyport Public Library. Moser has a master’s from Tufts University and a master’s in Library Science from Simmons College.
Verny, of Newburyport, joined the library as director during January, 2009.
WHAV was first to report the trustees named Moser as interim director, prior to conducting a search for a new director last November.
The full-time position oversees approximately 25 full-time employees and 30 volunteers, and is responsible for supervision of department heads, division heads and office staff. The salary range is between $72,491 and $84,048 per year.
