Patricia B. Cheney, 64, Social Worker

Patricia B. Cheney, 64, of Haverhill passed away December 24, 2014 at the Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley after a brief illness.

Born in Exeter, N.H., she was the daughter of the late, Albert and Edna (McDonald) Cheney. She was educated in Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1968.

A social worker her entire career, Cheney was employed by various social agencies in the area. She was director for the Emmaus House and Mitch’s Place for many years and received numerous awards from the community for her tireless efforts to make better the lives of countless people. In 1995 she was named the YWCA Woman of the Year.

She leaves four children, Hawley B. Cheney and his wife, Kristy, of Berwick, Maine, Diane E. Cheney and her partner, John Collier, of Haverhill, Danielle A. Cheney and Jason C. Cheney, also of Haverhill, six grandchildren, Danielle King, Tyler King, Angelia Valenzi, Emma Cheney, Mason Cheney, and Jalah Collier. She also leaves her siblings, Glenda Bower, of Kingston, N.H., Brain Cheney, of Newton, NH, Michelle Cheney, of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Scott McDonald, Jeannette Page, Diane Brown, Albert Cheney Jr, and Frankie Foster.

Funeral services will be Tuesday evening at 7at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the service from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Haverhill Bank, c/o Paul Frank, 100 Lafayette Square, Haverhill, MA 01832.
