Council Considers Reduced Speed Limit for Kingsbury Ave.

Discussions are expected at tonight’s Haverhill city council meeting on several recommendations made recently by the council’s Traffic and Safety Committee.

Among that panel’s recommendations is the creation of an ordinance making Margerie Street open for two-way traffic. The recommendation comes in the wake of reported problems with one-way signage, and a plan to have police monitor traffic in that area. Another proposal from the Traffic and Safety Committee would bring a 35 m.p.h. speed limit to part of Kingsbury Avenue, with the exception of a one-tenth mile stretch near the former Bradford College campus, which would be under a 25 m.p.h. speed limit.

Also on the agenda, City Councilor Michael S. McGonagle has requested a discussion about asking the mayor to lift a hiring freeze for the Haverhill police department.

The Haverhill City Council meets at 7 p.m., tonight, in council chambers at Haverhill City Hall.
