William J. “Bill” Biggart, 83, Haverhill Paperboard Worker

William J. “Bill” Biggart, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, at Holy Family Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Saugus on April 21, 1931 the son of the late Francis and Eva (McLaughlin) Biggart.

Biggart graduated from Lynn Trade School, Class of 1949. His career as a pipe fitter at Haverhill Paperboard spanned 40 years before retiring in 1993. Biggart was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for 60 years. He was a member of Saggahew Lodge A.F. & A.M., the Valley of the Merrimack Scottish Rite where he received the honors of the 33 degree, and the Aleppo Shriners. He was active in his community serving as a member of the Santa Claus Committee, holding the honor of being Santa, an active volunteer in the Relay for Life as the proud captain of “Walking with Bills Bunch,” and worked with the Boy Scouts. Biggart loved to garden, hike, ski, square dance and all activities involving his family. He was fortunate to have traveled to all the states except Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Roberta F. (Preston) Biggart; his children, William J. Biggart, Jr and wife Annette of Atkinson, Sheryl Lambert and husband Mark of Amesbury, Debra Pare and husband David of Salisbury, David Biggart and wife Linda of Haverhill, Julieann Lefebvre of Haverhill; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings, Frances Foss of Merrimac, Dorothy Noble of Calif., Nancy Bachelder and husband Leonard of Merrimac, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Samuel Biggart, Robert Biggart, Lyman Biggart and Barbara Urqhart.

Calling hours Saturday, Nov. 22, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral on Monday, Nov. 24, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 346 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01830. Interment to follow at Linwood Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 346 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01830.
