HHS Fine Arts Dept. Benefits from Steve Lyons Fund Grant

Upcoming HHS Student Production of ‘Pippin’ First Project to Benefit

The Haverhill High School Fine Arts Department benefitted from a $3,000 donation from the Steve Lyons Fund’s Third Annual Steve Lyons Memorial Rock Out! Cookout last summer.

The grant benefits students participating in art, music and theatre programs.

“This donation will help fund much-needed enhancements for the art, music and theatre programs at Haverhill High School,” said Tom Lyons, board president of the Steve Lyons Fund. “This is the largest single donation in the history of the Steve Lyons Fund and we are more than proud to have the Haverhill Public Schools as a partner in our mission to support local artists.”

Students working and performing in the upcoming production of “Pippin” have already felt the impact of the donation, according to event organizers. In October, the Steve Lyons Fund purchased $540 in lumber for set and stage materials. “Pippin” opens on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Haverhill High School, 137 Monument St., and runs until Saturday, Nov. 22. Curtain time for all three shows is 7 p.m.

The remainder of the $3,000 donation will be disbursed by the Steve Lyons Fund on an as-needed basis to pay for specific projects or equipment benefiting the fine arts department.

The Steve Lyons Fund is a 501 (c) (3) public charity that honors the memory of Steven William Lyons, 23, a Haverhill High graduate who passed away in 2007. The annual Rock Out! Cookout event—a family-friendly concert, cookout, field day and art festival—is Steve’s legacy. The 2014 Rock Out! Cookout took place Aug. 23 at Winnekenni Castle in Haverhill. The eight-hour event featured live performances from over 50 local musicians, including several area youth bands. A barbecue, art show, raffles and children’s games rounded out the festivities.
