Update: Governor’s Council candidate Maura L. Ryan-Ciardiello told the League of Women Voters of Greater Haverhill this morning she was unaware of the debate until seeing WHAV’s story. She said she will participate.

Two candidates may be no shows at tonight’s debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Haverhill.

As of Tuesday night, Fifteenth Essex state representative candidate Al DiNuccio, of Methuen, and Governor’s Council candidate Maura L. Ryan-Ciardiello, of Haverhill, had not confirmed their attendance, according to debate officials. If they do not attend, incumbent Rep. Linda Dean Campbell and incumbent Governor’s Councilor Eileen R. Duff will be allowed only to make brief statements.

“There will be no empty chair debates,” the official said.

The debate, which will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Haverhill Citizens Center, will be carried by WHAV. The moderator is Rebecca Bachman of the League of Women Voters.

First Essex state senate candidates are incumbent Sen. Kathleen A. O’Connor Ives, 1 Inn St., Newburyport, Democrat, and Haverhill School Committee member Shaun P. Toohey, 696 Crystal St., Haverhill, Republican.

Fourteenth Essex state representative candidates are incumbent Rep. Diana DiZoglio, 3 John St., Methuen, Democrat, and Rosemary Connelly Smedile, 65 Greene St., North Andover, Republican.

Fifteenth Essex state representative candidates are incumbent Rep. Linda Dean Campbell, 42 Sugar Pine Lane, Methuen, Democrat, and DiNuccio, 403 Pelham St., Methuen, Republican.

Candidates for governor’s council are incumbent Eileen R. Duff, 8 Barberry Heights Road, Gloucester, Democrat, and Haverhill School Committee member Ryan-Ciardiello, 18 Haley Road, Haverhill, Republican.
