A new video, “Newburyport – Historic, Vibrant, Inviting,” has been produced by Comcast for the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council (MVEDC).
The six-minute video, which received its first public viewing at a recent Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce breakfast, features brief interviews with Esther Sayer, owner of the Inn Street Barbershop; Newburyport Mayor Donna Holaday; Ann Ormond, Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce president; Julie Ganong, co-owner of Chococoa Baking Company; Mike Strem, CEO of Strem Chemical; and Daniel S. Rocconi, CEO of formerly Haverhill-based Bixby International Corporation.
Haverhill Connection
Bixby was founded in Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1874 by brothers William E. and George H. Bixby to service the footwear industry in the Merrimack Valley. The then-Bixby Box Toe Co. was incorporated in 1940 and the family name continues among directors William E., Benjamin C. and George H. Bixby. Its former Haverhill factory is now the “Viewpoint at Bixby Crossing,” an apartment building at 170 Washington St.
The video showcases the city’s historic downtown and abundant attractions such as the waterfront boardwalk, Maudslay State Park and Plum Island. The video also portrays a business-friendly community, with hundreds of small businesses downtown and a thriving business park.
The video was produced by Comcast as part of its annual support of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council, a non-profit organization that promotes the entire Merrimack Valley region, from Greater Lowell in the west to the seacoast. Previous videos have focused on the cities of Lowell and Haverhill. The videos can be seen on the MVEDC website, www.merrimackvalley.info.
