An early start to Columbus Day observances in the Merrimack Valley this weekend. The city of Haverhill marked the Columbus Day holiday Friday morning at city hall, with a raising of the Italian flag and a reading of a proclamation in Mayor James J. Fiorentini’s office at city hall.
“Columbus day is really Italian American heritage day and we are proud to celebrate that here in Haverhill,” said Fiorentini.
A small reception followed.
