GROVELAND – Michael Stavrou, 62, of Groveland, died on October 6, surrounded by his loving family at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, after a 14-year battle with cancer.
Michael was born in Psematismenos, Cyprus on December 6, 1951. He immigrated to New York in 1977 with his wife Effie. In 1982 he moved to Haverhill to help run the Haverhill House of Pizza where he worked for the next 17 years. In 1999 he purchased the Upper Crust Pizza shop in North Andover, which he owned until his retirement. After his retirement he helped his wife run A Touch of the Sun Tanning Salon.
He was an avid Boston sports fan and took great pleasure out of the Boston’s recent run of championships. He enjoyed traveling, specifically to Cyprus, Aruba and Naples, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Effie Stavrou; two children, Stella Stavrou of Groveland and Steven Stavrou of San Diego; his two grandsons Anthony and Michael Squeglia. His father Stavros Michael of Cyprus; siblings Lambros Michael of New York, Andreas Michael of New York, Dimitri Stavrou of Cyprus, and his sister Kyriaki Achilleos of Cyprus; his brother and sister in-laws Tim and Connie Clark of Haverhill, Terry Eleftheriou of Haverhill, Chris Eleftheriou of Haverhill, Michael Eleftheriou of Groveland, and Hope and Tony Meidanis of Hampstead, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His Funeral will be held Thursday morning, Oct. 9, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street at 10 a.m. Funeral Service in the Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill Street, Haverhill.
Calling hours will be Wednesday in the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m.
