Haverhill city officials celebrate the completion of one construction project and the start of another within a downtown block.

Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini and others will be on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the $1 million completion of an exterior renovation project at the Haverhill Citizen’s Center on Welcome Street. According to a spokesperson for the mayor, he will be joined by Congresswoman Niki Tsongas and other dignitaries for the ceremony at 10 a.m., Tuesday, for the newly renovated exterior facade at the Citizen’s Center.

Meanwhile, Fiorentini was joined by Rep. Brian S. Dempsey of Haverhill and others Friday for ground-breaking ceremonies marking the start of a makeover project at the adjacent GAR Park. Fiorentini said, on Facebook, the park is a gateway to the city, and the park rehab project will be within the newer, 40-year-old section of the park, which was created during the Merrimack Street Urban Renewal program. The historic portion of GAR park, dedicated to the city’s veterans dating back to the Civil War, will remain untouched.
