Haverhill Firm Now Offers Checker Cab Help

Enthusiasts of the iconic Checker cab now have a local source for the cars, parts and support.

Adamson Industries Corp. in the Broadway Business Park has launched its Checker Motor Car division. Steve Contarino, vice-president of Adamson Industries Corp., said he aims to “make collecting and owning a piece of automobile history exciting and rewarding.”

“After 40 years, a large number of original Checkers are still on the road. Many estimate that 2,000 survive out of several hundred thousand built. Checker automobiles were designed for extreme duty and meant to last 250,000 miles. Checker Motor Cars is here to support the Checker community as a one-stop source for the Checker collector’s needs,” the company said in a press release.

The company, located at 45 Research Drive, Haverhill, offers restored/reconditioned cars, original Checker parts, Checker merchandise, broker service and consulting/appraisal services.

Contarino founded Adamson with his wife Kim Contarino, who serves as president, in 1984.  The company now has a 56,000 square foot facility with just fewer than 50 employees. Its primary business is providing emergency vehicle equipment sales, service and installation.
