Police Seize Heroin, Cocaine; Warn About Overdoses

Police raided an apartment at 475 Washington St. Wednesday, seizing heroin, cocaine, suboxone and other narcotics.

Two men, 34-year-old Alvarado Lorenzo and 33-year-old Leonel Pena, both of Haverhill, were arrested Wednesday. $3,000 cash was also seized during the raid. Another man, 36-year-old Kevin Uloth of Haverhill, was arrested along with Lorenzo at Washington Avenue on an unrelated warrant from New Hampshire authorities, charging him with attempted burglary. All were arraigned in Haverhill District Court.

Meanwhile, a third suspect in a Washington Street drug bust by Haverhill Police on Wednesday was arrested Thursday at Haverhill District Court.

Haverhill Police report 33-year-old Edwin Pastrana of Haverhill was taken into custody shortly after 11 a.m. on a warrant charging him with possession of class A, class B, and class E drugs with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Drug Overdoses a Major Problem

While Haverhill Police continue their efforts to battle heroin distribution, they say drug addiction and overdose by users remains a major problem in the area.

Haverhill Police report they responded to three overdose reports on Wednesday. Details were not available. A Haverhill Police spokesperson said police departments in the Merrimack Valley “respond daily to reported overdoses. Sometimes the overdoses are fatal.” Earlier this year, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick declared addiction to opiates, including heroin, a health emergency in the Commonwealth.
