Haverhill City Councilor Mary Ellen Daly-O’Brien is looking for a plan to replace broken or missing downtown streetlights.
The city council will hear Daly-O’Brien’s concerns at its meeting tonight. She discussed the issue during last night’s WHAV Open Mike Show.
“Over the past year, one of the things I have gotten emails about and noticed myself was some of the street lights in the downtown area not only were non-functioning, but some of them were missing—pole and all.”
Daly-O’Brien said the problem is complicated by three different kinds of lights, expenses and the fact some lights are owned by National Grid. She said she has been pushing to have some alley ways lit, but has managed to have only one out of five completed.
“My concern was safety, quality of life. You know let’s just make downtown the most user friendly we can.”
She credited Mayor James J. Fiorentini with having a plan and ordering some replacements.
