Robert O. Williams, 81, Korean War Veteran, City Worker

Robert O. Williams, 81, died Friday, September 19, 2014 in the Chelsea Soldiers Home following a brief illness.

Born in Haverhill on November 29, 1932, he was the son of the late Charles and Emily (Doucette) Williams. A lifelong resident of Haverhill, he was a graduate of St. James High School. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 19, 1955 as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class.

Bob was employed in the Department of Public Works for the city of Haverhill for nearly 40 years before his retirement as a foreman in the park department. He was a life member of the Hannah Dustin Chapter, DAV and the Plaistow Fish and Game Club. He was also a member of the Haverhill AMVETS and Haverhill Historical Society.

He is survived by his sister, Carol A. Goodwin of Haverhill and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Joanne Stevenson and three brothers, Leo, Charles and Arthur Williams.

At Williams’ request, there are no funeral services. Interment will be privately held in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill at the convenience of his family. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
