Haverhill Snubs Plaistow Railroad Group

A group in Plaistow, New Hampshire studying a proposed commuter rail extension and layover station at or near the Haverhill state line has released an alternatives overview map for further review.

One of three alternatives proposed by the Plaistow Commuter Rail Extension Study calls for a commuter rail station off Westville Road near route 125, separate from a train layover facility on the Haverhill side of the border, parallel to the upper Hilldale Avenue industrial park. Two other alternatives would locate combined commuter and layover stations.

The city of Haverhill has been invited to send a representative to the meetings, but has declined to do so, officials report. The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission, which represents several communities including Haverhill, however, has sent Todd Fontanella to project advisory committee meetings.

A public informational meeting is scheduled for October 9, 7 p.m., at Plaistow Town Hall.
