Catherine (Vergos) Christopher, 100, Owned Christopher’s Market

Catherine (Vergos) Christopher, 100, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday evening, at the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home, Middleboro.

She was born in Lowell, July 11, 1914, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Angeles) Vergos. Christopher was educated in the Lowell school system and was employed at the former Giant Store as well as in various shoe shops in Lowell. She and her husband moved to Haverhill in 1939 and for more than 28 years they owned and operated the former Christopher’s Market, Haverhill.  Christopher was a member of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, the ELPIS Society and the Golden Age Club all of Haverhill.

She was the wife of the late Harry Christopher who died in 1987 and her survivors include a daughter, Sandra Carnevale of St. Pete Beach, Fla., two sons, William Christopher of Largo, Fla., Chris Christopher and his wife Rosemarie of East Freetown, two sisters, Connie Michaels of Westford, Virginia Moraitis of Hollywood, Fla, a brother, Charles Vregos and his wife Eva of Las Vegas, NV, two grandchildren, Kevin H. Christopher, Cheryl Marie Meola and her husband Rob of East Freetown, two great grandchildren, Christopher and Austin Meola and several nieces and nephews. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill, MA 01830.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Friday, Sept. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday morning, Sept. 20, beginning at 10 from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Service at 11 in Holy Apostles Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
