Leon Pickard, 88, WWII Veteran

ATKINSON, N.H. – Leon Pickard, 88, of Atkinson, passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, with his family by his side, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born in Malden, he was the son of the late, Hyman L. Fivishovitz and Judith (Ansel), he was the step son of the late, Oscar Pickard. Raised and educated in Malden, he attended Malden Public Schools. He then enlisted into the U.S. Navy. A Veteran of WWII, he proudly served from 1943 thru 1947 and again from 1950, until being honorably discharged in 1951.

Pickard spent his career in the transportation industry as a tractor trailer driver. He and his late wife, Joyce (Budnick) Pickard worked as a team driving for Yes Transportation Company in Salisbury. Mr. Pickard enjoyed playing BINGO and socializing at the Atkinson Community Center, and the Vic Geary center in Plaistow. He also liked fishing, playing cribbage, working on crossword puzzles and attending the concerts at Hampton Beach.

The widower of Joyce (Budnick) Pickard who just recently passed away on August 20, he leaves four children; Robert Pickard of Leesburg, Georgia, Kathy Connor and her husband, James, of Canterbury, N.H., Kenneth Pickard, of Lowell, and Cheryl Riel and her husband, Paul Jr, of North Chelmsford, three step children; Tammy Dandurant and her husband, Dennis, of Haverhill, Joseph Ravgiala Jr. and his wife, Erin, of Fitchburg, and Michelle Ravgiala and her friend, Richard Harris, of Salem, NH, a sister, Joan Rosen, and brother, Bernard Pickard. Seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Stephen and Arthur Pickard and granddaughter, Candace Pickard.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend a graveside committal service on Saturday, September 13, at 11 a.m. in the Atkinson Cemetery, Main St. Atkinson, N.H. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, 10 Reed St. Haverhill, MA 01832.
