For one incumbent Merrimack Valley lawmaker, the battle goes on despite last night’s primary victory. State Representative Diana DiZoglio (D-Methuen) overcame fellow Democratic challengers Phil DeCologero and Oscar Camargo, both of North Andover. While voter turnout was sparse, DiZoglio credits a months-long grassroots campaign.

“It’s a lot of work and time. We’re out door knocking, we’re making phone calls, we’re holding signs, we’re doing our letters, our postcards, our mailings. We have a lot of great volunteers from throughout the community,” DiZoglio told WHAV.

Her next challenger, in the November general election, is Republican candidate and North Andover Board of Selectmen Chairman Rosemary Connelly Smedile. DiZoglio said more work still lies ahead.

“I hope that it will stay based on the issues. The campaign will be about the issues and that we will be able to make sure we’re getting people into the polls no matter what.”
