John Rogers, 79, Haverhill Trade School Graduate

John Rogers, 79, lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Sept. 5, surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Rogers was born in Haverhill on March 21, 1935, son of the late James W. and Beatrice (Chapman) Rogers. He was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1954.

In his younger years, he was a television repairman and owner of Residential Electronics. He also worked for a short time for the Haverhill Public School System Audio Visual Department. More recently, he was known as “Mr. Flea” at the Salem Flea Market.

Rogers loved a variety of sports including Nascar. He enjoyed watching his son John’s Racing Team with Ron Bolduc win championships during 1999-2001. His activities included softball, playing the position of catcher for the 110 Towing Team, also he enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Alive After Five Club.

Devoted husband of the late Carlene L. (Roy) Rogers whom they shared 42 years of marriage.

His surviving family members include his caring children, John Rogers and wife Debra of Plaistow, N.H., Karen Dumas and husband Neal of Bradford, Susan LaFortune and husband Christopher of Haverhill and Debra Rogers of Haverhill; seven grandchildren; brother, Joseph Rogers and wife Joann of Haverhill; many nieces and nephews; loving brother of the late Mary Blair, Charlotte Ennis and James Rogers, Jr.

His funeral will be Tuesday morning, Sept. 9, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, (Rte. 125), Bradford at 9:15 a.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill at 10:30 a.m. Interment  follows in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.

Visiting hours will be Monday in the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m.
