Job Seekers May Receive College Training if Plan Approved

Job seekers in the Merrimack Valley may be able to access training opportunities at public higher learning institutions with federal grants if a proposed plan is approved.

The Merrimack Valley Workforce Investment Board’s Planning Committee meets Wednesday morning in Lawrence to consider a motion to share Valley Works Career Center member information with the region’s public colleges when authorized by individual member customers. According to Workforce Investment Board documents, the motion would “potentially increase and supplement VWCC customer training opportunities with MA Higher Education and Federal Pell and Perkins Grants.”

ValleyWorks Career Center facilities include one in the Student Center building at the Haverhill campus of Northern Essex Community College, and another on South Union Street in Lawrence.
