Police Join ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ for ALS

Local law enforcement leaders are also taking part in the phenomenon known as “the ice bucket challenge” for an ongoing ALS awareness effort and fundraiser against the disease, also known as “Lou Gherig’s Disease.”

Tuesday, Haverhill Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro accepted a challenge from Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon and received a dousing of ice water from a department staffer. In turn, Chief DeNaro called out to challenge Police Chief Robert Kirmelewicz of Groveland, Chief Eric Shears of Merrimac, Haverhill Officer Scott Ziminski, Crime Analyst Ron Tuell and, as DeNaro described, a “diehard Red Sox fan,” Robyn Holt.

A video of DeNaro’s ice bucket challenge is posted on the Haverhill Police official Facebook page.
