Police Arrest Man for Alleged Attempted Arson

An investigation by Haverhill Police leads to the arrest of a local man on arson charges. Police report 56-year-old Donald Wood of Haverhill was arrested at 11:45, Monday night, at police headquarters. He is charged with attempted arson and arson of property. Wood is due to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court. No further details available.

A traffic stop by Haverhill Police leads to the arrest of a Plaistow, N.H. man wanted on a charge of armed robbery. Police report 30-year-old Matthew J. Hennessey of Plaistow was taken into custody on a warrant charging him with armed robbery. He is also charged with operating a motor vehicle after license revocation and with being a fugitive from justice. The arrest occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Beach and River Streets.

In other police news, A Haverhill man is facing a charge of drunk driving, second offense. Haverhill Police report 65-year-old John Albanese of Haverhill was arrested on Main street shortly before 1 p.m., Monday, on a charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor.
