A Haverhill-based group is holding an event Wednesday afternoon for young students heading back to school later this month.
The Haverhill Community Violence Prevention Coalition is sponsoring a backpack giveaway at the Haverhill Citizen’s Center at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday. The event includes presentations by a school administrator about the upcoming school year and also a brief presentation by Haverhill Police school resource officers.
A parent or guardian may register up to two children who attend a Haverhill School and must accompany the child to the event,where ice cream will be provided.
Organizers say a limited number of backpacks are still available. To register, call (978) 722-1548 by 4 p.m., Tuesday. A Haverhill police Officer will answer, or callers may leave a message.
