Methuen and Haverhill are among several Merrimack Valley communities, included in a new ranking of the “most boring places in Massachusetts.”
According to a study by the Movoto Real Estate blog, Methuen is the valley’s most boring community, ranked at number six on the statewide list. Lawrence was ranked number 10, Haverhill came in at number 25, and Lowell is number 42.
The Movoto study says Methuen “had some of the fewest non-fast food restaurants per capita, some of the least active life options, plus a pretty low percentage of young people—just 20.37 percent of residents are between the ages of 18 and 34.” As for Lawrence, it is said to have potential with a relatively high young population but is included “mostly for its absolute lack of active life options whatsoever. Or art. Or non-fast food restaurants, for that matter.” The Movoto rankings are based on the 2010 U.S. Census and business listings in the 50 most populous towns to find information about their nightlife, active life options, arts and entertainment, fast-food and non-fast-food restaurants per capita, among other categories.
